Haiku Poems: Grip (For Samantha)

I’ll be your mermaid –
swimming into the deepest
depths of your blue sea.

Your current pulls me.
Like tentacles of a squid,
you enwrap and grip.

Excitement tingles –
sharp stings from a jellyfish.
Some dangers exist.

Submerged in the murk,
ink swirls from your poetry.
Your words capture me.

  1. Mermaids, and merman’s, next is merdog’s, mercats, haha, and merroo’s, that’d be like a fish jumping out’a water……Oh. back to your Haiku, Rose, I’ve always wanted to meet a mermaid, she’d be one good slippery catch….

    • Thanks! Hmm. That’s a good question… perhaps you can love how the person makes you feel through their words. It’s difficult to love someone you’ve never met in person, but you can certainly love the feelings their writings invoke. 🖋❤️

  2. Such a beautiful poem born of the deep blue sea. The allure of creatures whose world you’ve crossed into. And even in the deepest of blue, words capture you as the illusion in your illustration keeps us mesmerized. Lovely…

  3. The little mermaid must be careful that she doesn’t become addicted to those stings. They can be quite…er…nice. 😉
    Lovely poem, Rose…great imagery.

  4. The illustration is lovely and fits the intriguing poem.  The juxtaposition of squid tentacles and poetry is inspirational, so a pingback may be in this post’s future.

            Squids squirt ink to flee.
            Writers also sometimes, but
            often to confront.
