Three Haiku Poem: Suck the Poison

poison-ii-1557815

Tie you to my heart –

so tight the rope makes a mark.

I want it to burn.

In pain, you grimace

at the cruel words I say.

I know I’m to blame.

Tell me where it hurts.

I’ll suck the poison away –

til another day.

Inspired by Alan’s three haiku poem, Unjust (Click here to visit and follow Monochrome Nightmares’ blog).

  1. Excellent trio. I especially like the last one. I’ve heard that most medicines are actually poisons in small doses. A little pain in exchange for a lot of pleasure. 😘

Can I link to this for May’s Open Mic?

  2. Pain and love is a cocktail
That I drank for too many years
To the point that I didn’t want
    Anything else to drink
    I found the cheapest
    One I could find
    And falling down
    Was the new up

  3. I definitely get a feeling of “We both know there is pain but choose to endure it anyway” from this poem. My interpretation is that a little poison/pain can be pleasurable in small doses, but that feeling can be more and more ominous as the days go on. How long can you keep a rope tied to your heart before it tears through? How long can you keep sucking out small amounts of poison before it becomes toxic? I enjoyed this very much! I haven’t written a haiku in a long time, and you’ve reminded me how powerful they can be 🙂

    • I was inspired by my friend Alan, who is an English poet, of brilliant and dark poetry. I have his link right under my poem. I believe you’d enjoy his writings. Thank you for your lovely words and visit. I hope all is well with you, Lady South. 💐

  4. I always particularly like your readings of your poems, Rose. You always do it very well. I like all of your haiku, of course, but I think my favorite one here is the first one. Its last line caught me a little off-guard. 🙂
