The spider tree hunkered down; waiting. Squirrels looked away when footsteps on the forest floor signaled a prey. With chainsaw ready to tear down wood, the lumberjack was its most favorite food. Sap seeped, and the man was stuck. The spider tree, baring its wooden fangs, swiftly struck then sucked.

Lumberjacks no longer cause me fear after Monty Python’s Lumberjack Song. I invite trees (though not spider trees!) to my house and we watch it together and laugh.

I agree with my friend above about that haiku…just brilliant….I think it so sad to mutilate trees like ‘they’ do and What a good photo too, the whole combination..a dream!

As ever, I really enjoyed reading your 50 word story, Rose. They always go in unexpected directions, but in a good way (unless you’re a lumberjack, of course).

That looks like an eerie fantasy story written out with a good use of creative imagination. I like how you put it across as the spider tree coming alive π
