Sweet Nothings

unnamed (1)
Collage by Poet Rummager

Youโ€™re an abscess.

A hole in my soul.

Buttered words in your oven

came out warm and gooey.

I sank my teeth into each one.

Licked my fingers.

Wanted more.

One after the other,

they melted on my tongue.

Lover of sugar.

Fool for cake.

The desserts you concocted

you made me crave –

until I awoke with a cavity

full of your sweet nothings.

No amount of brushing

would make the decay go away.

  1. Having had recent major tooth decay issues, this poem makes me ache! ๐Ÿ˜€ It is a beautiful drawing out of the โ€œsweet nothingsโ€ saying. I hope this is not a poem from a personal romantic debacle. Welcome back!

  2. Hi Rose, metaphorically speaking you’re my favourite poetry flower, and metaphorically your poem reeks of decayed love, causing a deep chasm, leaving you with a bad taste in your mouth.

  3. Well good morning, I do hope you’ve been well? You’ve been sadly missed around here. I do like the poem and the use of sweet words to tell someone to sod off in a subtle way. Take care L…jc

  4. You’re a master wordsmith! Your recent creation is one of my favorites, and your spoken word is clear and precise. Nice job! ‘”Lover of sugar. Fool for cake.” — pure genius.

  5. Ahh – that weakness for sweetness is very tricky, isn’t it? So glad to see you back, Rose and with such splendid poems too! Keep it coming! ๐Ÿ˜„ ๐Ÿ˜

  6. Oh that rotting ‘sweet nothing’! Plenty of picking, mouthwash, and a diet! ๐Ÿ™‚
People say you have been away from blogging. Hope all is well, friend.

  7. Don’t know how I missed this one, Rose. Deepest apologies. The poem is clever as only a Rose-poem could be, but that collage takes the cake. (Intended) Is that some sort of legislative assembly I see pictured? Politicians are known for sweet nothings, too. In any case, you’re a brilliant talent, my friend.

    • Iโ€™m happy you found my poem, Oggy! Yes, itโ€™s crazy how politicians work the system. They tell the world how great and free America is; yet when refugees seek asylum, they find those words were all sweet nothings. The icing drips and become a prison. People using people to advance political gains. Thank you for reading in between the lines. xo
