Winter’s Thaw

IMG_2352

Winter whispers as I rest.
The head cold I feel is its fingers’ caress.
My heart is a snow globe in my chest;
swirling,
drifting,
icy.

Cold surrounds like a thickened cloak.
It leaves tiny icicles at the tip of my nose.

A blanket of snow upon my face.
On my tongue, snowflakes are what I taste.

I shiver feeling you near.
Hair on my arms stand upright in fear.
I’m scared to let fall
this wall
of ice I’ve built for years.

Your touch heats me up
in places I’ve long forgot.
Warm lips meld.
Ice slowly melts.
Moisture appears on my skin
as winter’s thaw begins.
