I’ll be your mermaid –
swimming into the deepest
depths of your blue sea.
Your current pulls me.
Like tentacles of a squid,
you enwrap and grip.
Excitement tingles –
sharp stings from a jellyfish.
Some dangers exist.
Submerged in the murk,
ink swirls from your poetry.
Your words capture me.

Nobody ever writes a poem about a merman. Something fishy about that.
Love the poem, Rose, and the illustration too.

Well, you can break the tide and write a merman poem! I dare you… If you do, you can dare me to write a poem about any subject you wish. Maybe?
Thanks darling! xo

Mermaids, and merman’s, next is merdog’s, mercats, haha, and merroo’s, that’d be like a fish jumping out’a water……Oh. back to your Haiku, Rose, I’ve always wanted to meet a mermaid, she’d be one good slippery catch….

Merroos? How cool! That would be a sight to see. Lol. Watch out for jumping merroos! 😃 Slippery, indeed, Ivor.

The image of the mermaid clearly strikes a chord. I’m very taken by your pen, the ink of the sea creating its own distinctive songs. (K)

Lovely words, K! You’re right — I only pen what the sea sings to me. 🎶 🌊 🖋

You have a unique voice, dear Rose! Your poem made me laugh–the squid tentacles and the jellyfish stings–and then the beautiful last stanza that changes the whole tone. ❤

Thank you so very much, Merril! The mermaid turned out to be caught in someone’s poetry. You’re very wise to catch that, and you didn’t even need a fishing pole! 💞🌹

gahh, so lovely! I wonder, is it possible to love someone by their words as a reflection of their soul? or will it be a mere illusion made in a different world?
LikeLiked by 3 people
Thanks! Hmm. That’s a good question… perhaps you can love how the person makes you feel through their words. It’s difficult to love someone you’ve never met in person, but you can certainly love the feelings their writings invoke. 🖋❤️

It’s quite refreshing in this particular sea of poetry, although knowing how the tides can quickly change in my demented mind, do be wary, Cathy. You may encounter a mischievous sea creature or two. 🦑🐙🦈. I shall lend you wings in case they get too close… 🦋

Those mischievous sea creatures best watch out for me…I might put them in a story and do terrible things to them. 🤣

Haha! Yes, they would be the ones wanting to fly away from the queen of macabre…. or maybe not, since it would be an honor for them to grace your stories.

Such a beautiful poem born of the deep blue sea. The allure of creatures whose world you’ve crossed into. And even in the deepest of blue, words capture you as the illusion in your illustration keeps us mesmerized. Lovely…

The little mermaid must be careful that she doesn’t become addicted to those stings. They can be quite…er…nice. 😉
Lovely poem, Rose…great imagery.

The squid illustration reminds me of an orthocone. Your poetry revived the extinct creature.
LikeLiked by 3 people
Sharp eyes, Fly! The squid is shaped the way it is to look like an antique pen. I liked the idea of the ink from a “pen squid.” The mermaid is caught inside a sea of poetry. I’ve seen an orthocone in illustrations before but never knew what they’re called. Yeah, my squid looks like one! How funny!! Thanks!🦑❤️

You have quite the imagination! I suppose a ‘pen squid’ would never run out of ink! Ha.

It’s just harder hanging on to that particular pen since it would keep wiggling! lol.

The illustration is lovely and fits the intriguing poem. The juxtaposition of squid tentacles and poetry is inspirational, so a pingback may be in this post’s future.
Squids squirt ink to flee.
Writers also sometimes, but
often to confront.
