Nobody who is
always gloomy can stay sane.
Set your laughter free.
Allow happiness
to handspring into your grin –
spreading joy within.
Nobody who is
always happy can be sane.
Let your tears flow, too.
Allow the sadness
to somersault down your face.
Tumbling tears you’ll taste.
Staying on the beam
is a challenge, unless you’re
a world class gymnast.
Haiku poetry by Mellow Curmudgeon and Poet Rummager
Perfect!
I love “Allow happiness
to handspring into your grin”–it makes me grin.
Perfect illustration, too!

I have a holiday tomorrow and I’m trying to relax but I’m regurgitating thoughts at the moment. I wish I could flow along the same wavelength as your poem. I’ll try to stay on the beam.

Have a wonderful holiday, SB! Yes, it’s sometimes difficult to keep our balance in this world. Hopefully, you can clear your mind of any worries and relax during your time off. Believe me, there will be plenty of time to get back to worrying when your holiday is over.
I’m sending you my best thoughts and wishes for a peaceful vacation. xo

Balance is the mantra of life. Otherwise, we can’t remain sane…true words, Rose, and profound as well…
Loved the play with words, “somersault down your face”, “Allow happiness
to handspring into your grin”… ❤ ❤

Balance is a necessity, darling Mani, you are very wise! Thank you; I enjoyed writing those words. Mellow has a fantastic blog and writes haiku poems quite beautifully, too — just like you!!
Hmm, if you ever find extra time on your hands, we can do a series of haiku together — just let me know. I would enjoy that very much. ❤ 💓

Beautiful poem. Balance perfectly explained. Simply standing on the beam gets us nowhere 🙂 xx

That’s a lovely compliment, and I would certainly love to work with Mel again. Now, if he’d work with me again is another matter altogether. 😊 I’m glad you liked the flow — the tumbling gymnast is world class, so she fortunately stayed on the beam. Whew!

Nice one, Rose. You’re right, of course. We can’t always be happy or always be sad. We need balance, which is where being a gymnast comes in.

There’s a reason they call the mats beneath the beam a crash pad when a gymnast is learning her trade…and crashing happens even after the mats thin out! Speaking as one who in her own day wiped out many a time from that four inch piece of wood (yes, it was WOOD then!), what coaches said then is true today: you cannot find the point of balance until you overbalance enough times to feel that precious instance of weightlessness… Too bad it has to hurt to find it, but once you find it….ecstasy!

Thanks KC! A crash pad, but of course. Lol. I enjoyed reading about your acrobatic experiences and learning about crash pads. 🙂

all of the haiku work well but the fourth one is so evocative for me thanks to the sensory images of “sadness/ to somersault down your face./ Tumbling tears you’ll taste.”

It’s easier for me to do rhyming poems with a bouncy tone than this. You are very good at this.
