They stared at each other.
She started to cry, and he made a move towards her but didn’t even know her name.
“Thief!” She sobbed, grasping her head. “It’s gone. All gone!”
“You and your wife ought to rest,” the nurse whispered; saddened and astonished that they both had dementia.
This is so clever, yet sad. My husband acted in a short film about dementia – I dread it ever coming between us.

Your husband is a daredevil and an actor, too? Very sexy.
Glen Campbell wrote a song, “I’m Not Gonna Miss You” when he was diagnosed with Alzheimer. Have you heard it? I found it strangely comforting.
Thank you for reading my story!

I remember when the news came about his diagnosis. I suppose it could be comforting, but it’s also a saying goodbye. It’s very sad.

It is sad, and we all have to say goodbye someday. He understood what was going to happen, and I think because of that knowledge, Glen Campbell was able to prepare himself for the inevitable.

Yes we both dabble a bit, we met on stage in an amateur drama group in Portugal. That link didn’t work but I will find it later. Sol

What a sweet story! Thank you for sharing, Lady Sol. Was it love at first sight?

Yes, I have seen enough of dementia to recognize it in your story and Glen Campbell’s song. Hope I can be as clear-eyed and creative as Campbell if I get a similar diagnosis.

I know you have, dear Mel! I think no one has a magnificently clever brain like yours. xo

I’m sure all of us create in whatever medium we choose partly in the hopes that should we one day be unable to remember our lives, others will remember them for us. A very sad and movingly human story.

So sad when there is such a cognitive decline that they don’t remember their loved ones anymore. Moving words! Indeed love and compassion will comfort and ease the pain.

Your animated voices added depth to your spoken word. Do you think you’ll use those kind of voices more often?

Thank you! Lol. It was loads of fun even though it was scary for me to step outside of my comfort zone. I’ve always wanted to cackle like a witch, so maybe someday…
You should try different voices if you’re not comfortable using your real one. Just start recording yourself imitating someone. You’ll laugh so hard, and it helps loosen those restraints. 🙂

It is a very well done story, Rose. Illusion of life is better than complete darkness. These two might get into a happier scenario tomorrow. It was just a bad day. There is always hope.
