His stomach growled. Scurrying past a dead tree, he heard moaning. He peered into a large fissure and saw a beautiful hamadryad who reached for him. As their fingertips brushed, she collapsed, turning into a pile of acorns. Sadness gave way to gratitude as the starving squirrel stuffed his cheeks.
I’d never heard of a hamadryad before your post, Rose, but I enjoyed the story and found it rather touching. Who knew that unrequited squirrel romance could be so affecting? 🙂

Ah, thank you so much! Really? Was it unrequited love, darling BunK? They touched, and she left him nourishment from her soul. 😗

Thanks Sin! Tree nymphs aren’t well known around here, so always be kind to trees. 😊🍃

I’m very aware of them, mostly because of reading tons of mythology books growing up and of course I never get the scene out of my head in Disney’s Hercules of Phil chasing dryad everywhere. Xp
No worries on being kind to trees. The above aside, I work in business of trees and their well being you might say. It is literally in my job description.
Cheers! ^_^

This is so good. Love the karma aspect and I didn’t know what a hamadryad was (and neither did spell check apparently). Amazing, Rose!

Sorry I couldn’t do better. Maybe I’m creatively dehydrated. You could say I’m all dryad out.

Hmm. Take a day or two to recharge. You don’t have to write everyday. Go have fun with your Bodhi boy. 😊

Hamadryads die along with their own special tree, so I guess she took whatever energy she had left to leave him a gift. Thanks for visiting. Next time you’re over, I’ll bake cookies!! 😀

Well, just make sure you don’t run into a Jubokko tree, then you should be fine!

Damn! I’m never going into the woods again. I never heard of a Jubokko tree.

Isn’t it something? I’ve been intrigued by the Jubokko vampire tree that thirsts only for human blood. Garlic and crosses won’t help you, either! 😀 Your sword might, though!

You should write a story about a Jubokko tree. The concept is certainly interesting — I’ll write a story, as well.

The myth of hamadryad is new to me. Thanks for that. The story produces a mixed feeling…of emotion, gratitude and sadness simultaneously. Nicely penned, as always… ❤
