(Even the beautiful sun has blemishes)
Erase my mistakes from his eyes.
Allow him not to see those flaws.
Cut them out here, there, and lengthwise
until they slough right off.
Run far, far away, imperfection!
Gallop to the hills and never think to look back.
I’ll board up my doors; secure my windows with tacks.
As I sleep, my mistakes drift in with the breeze.
They settle on my chest; staying as quiet as can be.
In the morning, I awaken and find I’ve been mistaken.
There’s nothing shameful at all about being human.
I look at my blemishes with grass in their hair,
mud on their shoes, and dirt on their cheeks.
I gather them close; promising accountability.
Without them, I wouldn’t be me.
Really lovely poem. We are defined by what we are, mistakes and all. Making peace with these things is part of maturing as a person. Beautifully articulated in your poem.

I’m glad you feel the same way; although I could’ve guessed you would. Remember, I’ve read your secret journals 😉 Thank you so much, Stephen. Your words do mean a lot. xo

Lovely poem. Were you perhaps referencing children in this poem? The last few lines could be interpreted as such I suppose. I’d have to read it again and be sure.
You have a way with words.
Cheers! ^_^

I don’t think I’d refer to children as “blemishes.” Lol. The last lines are a nod to all my mistakes of the past, present, and future. Thanks for reading my poem so closely — I believe it’s blushing; you were so close 😀 Thanks Sin!

I really, really like how you’re letting your presence be known by the folks commenting — I wish more people would do that when I dedicate a work to them or display their art or photos. That’s how you do it, baby! 🌹 Oh, feel free to jump into the conversations, too. I don’t mind it at all.

A weed is only a plant that’s growing where you don’t want it to. A blemish is only a blemish if you call it bad.

So true for the most part, and it also depends on what kind of weed you’re growing 🙂 Thanks for visiting!🌹

The Sun proves blemishes don’t last forever. But there’s always another scar waiting to rotate into view, and that’s something even a star must learn to live with.

Aw, I enjoy your words and work so much! That sun is an amazing capture. ❤ There's something about scars that draw me — you know there's a story somewhere there. Did you know I have a scar above my right eye; that's why I shifted to your other shoulder when we were taking that selfie? I know, I know, I need to embrace my blemishes. I'm working on it! 😀

I didn’t notice — you were too clever! It’s funny how the pain from a deep cut is only transitory, but the scar lasts a lifetime, as if it were a fleshy hieroglyph representing the traumatic experience.

🦉 That’s the new owl emoji, but it’s got limited support, so not many can see it 😦 I love penguins, though! I guess I’m a night penguin. Lol. I think you’re up pretty late, too, aren’t you?

Nope. I’m in bed by 10:30. West Coast.
I can’t see the owl. I’m very sad.

It’s our imperfections and flaws that make us interesting. What a boring world if we all looked, thought and acted according to some predetermined “ideal.”

When I think about it long enough
My imperfection was not me
But others who are looking
Casting doubts upon my shadow
I felt fine till I decided to be part of the race
Not I wished I kept running
And never looked back
Good Morning Rose

Hmm. We all are perfectly imperfect. You’re right, though, why should we define ourselves by what others point out as our “flaws?” Thank you Sheldon. Have a lovely day! xo

Usually we men when in love just see the world perfect and in pink with funny eyes. If there is one perfect person I think she/he is alone, nobody could endure him/her. xD

This is so very beautiful ❤ . "There’s nothing shameful at all about being human" …true, and, we wouldn't have been known of virtues if there were no mistake. We, humans, have our follies. Without my mistakes, "I wouldn't be me"…just loved this!!
