Metallic armor
glistening as he conquers
weaklings in his path.
There’s another metallic knight found in the insect kingdom — deadly and maneuvers like green lightning! It’s the Tiger Beetle, which can effortlessly vanquish its prey, as seen here and captured by

Crusader knight vs. tiger beetle…I think the tiger beetle would win! It has prettier armour.

With mandibles as ferocious as a tiger beetle’s, I’d think it could easily crush the knight’s armor. Hmm, nature’s own can opener! Ouch.

Well…the crusader has a can opener! It’s called a poleaxe. But I would rather have mandibles.

I can draw you with some amazing mandibles if you’d like! 😉

Yea, nature in tooth and claw goes on into the tiniest creatures, the fight for survival and procreation..hmmm even we still take part. Well done , this seems a combined effort.

You’re right; we humans have created our own weapons to conquer those around us — money, power, and a sweet ride (unfortunately).

Years ago, I contacted a number of entomologists who specialized in tiger beetles in order to get further information for an article I was writing. (I realize this sounds like the set-up for a joke, but it’s the absolute truth.) I learned a lot of interesting things about them, but the one that sticks in my memory is that they run so fast, they actually can’t get enough light hitting their eyes and the go blind temporarily. They have to wait for a couple of seconds before resuming the hunt.
I know it sounds unbelievable, so I tracked down an article from National Geographic to back me up. 🙂

What a lovely coincidence that you’ve also written about tiger beetles! I had no idea about the beetles going blind for a moment as they run after their prey. I think Fly would also love to read your comment.
Thank you for being such a sweetheart and also sharing the link and valuable info. xo
