Late at night, it knocks –
biting hard and holding fast.
Its name is “Regrets.”

Regret gems are known to be extremely sharp, and they can cut deep, so I hope you won’t be wearing any of them! Seriously, thank you, Lady South. xo

I really hate it when regrets bang on the door — even when I don’t let them in, they keep me up all night. Ugh, such jerks!

Tell me about it. Bit me hard, it did. Love that doorknob, too. xoxoxo

Haha. It did! Thank you, Francis. I love that architectural piece so much. Do you see door knockers like these in Peru?

Yes, Rose. We have similar ones in modern homes (lions) and in colonial homes. : )

Which has the sharper teeth? Regrets over what you’ve done? Or didn’t do?

Great questions. Definitely, what I didn’t do. I still have a scar or two from the bites 😀
There aren’t many regrets I have, but I can name one or two (I won’t, but I can!). I say “bull” to those who boast, “I have no regrets whatsoever.” Right, unless you’re ten years old or a psychopath, then I’ll believe ya! 😉

Or a ten year old psychopath. Those are the worst. Smug little bastards.

Your haunting haiku fits the nasty knocker perfectly. While we are on the subject of regrets …
Hundreds of regrets
swarm like homeless bees until
death stills all, at last.

I really feel this one. One of the things I hate most in the world is lying in bed and thinking back over all the things I regret. Once I start, I lose all hope for sleep that night. 😦

Don’t you think that once in awhile it’s all right to let ourselves feel pain? It’s a kind of outpouring or cleansing of ones soul… sort of getting rid of that toxin we keep stashed inside (at least for the moment, and then we have room for better memories). ❤

You may well be right about that, Rose. Perhaps that’s the reason so many of us feel compelled to look back over painful memories once in a while.

Oh no! No regrets! From the thumbnail, I though it was a sheela! You know, I am getting obsessed with them 🙂 Cannot wait for a poem about her, with no regrets! 🙂
