I loved the book – it was ahead of its time at the time she wrote it.

Mary Shelley was, indeed, extraordinary as is her writing. She wrote an autobiography in which she stated that she created Frankenstein, the novel, because Percy Shelley, who wasn’t her husband at the time, challenged her and other writer friends to pen a horror story. The best story would be declared the winner. Hands down, she won!

I heard that but then she never really wrote any others. She must have picked it up naturally from her mother, Mary Wollstonecraft (yes The Feminist – but I expect you already knew that).

Yes, she talked about her mom who died when she was very young. Mary had a tragic life herself. Fascinating woman.

I read the book as a adult long after I’d seen the various movies and was surprised by how articulate the creature was. I love this quote.

Yes, the monster sounded like a poet! He had such great lines. Well, look at you; a crow who writes such enthrallimg poems! Who would’ve thunk?😃

As the quote illustrates, the original novel had depth and subtlety that were ignored in the movie and subsequent folklore. Thanks for reminding us.
