It’s Christmas morning, and I feel your arms encircle me. I smile; half asleep. Your hands touch me.
“Cold hands!” I squeal.
My eyes fly open. You never have cold hands.
“Are you sick?” I turn to you.
I’m all alone.
My skin burns in the places I was touched.

That was beautiful and hauntingly sad. I admire the way you can get so much emotional heft from so few words.

I tend to carry my words in my pockets, so only a few can fit at a time. One of these days, I may buy a backpack, but I like traveling light, so we’ll see! Thanks for the sweet compliment, BunK💖🎅

Frostbite? Ouch! Now that’s a wake-up call!

Good one! Have you ever been frost bitten?

No — my ears took a beating one particular night, but nothing major. I think the ears are the most common appendage to become frostbitten (many people forget about the ears.)

Glad you kept your ears! From your photo, they look quite cute and the right size for your head. 😊

Extreme changes in temperature (both hot and cold) are capable of producing “burning pain.” This poem created an image I can only describe as:
“Alone, in a bedroom that once held two, we feel the pain of heat from a passion’s past followed by a sudden painful chill caused by loneliness and the realization of a bedroom that now sleeps one.” This joy/sadness is a part of many lives.
You know how to create such emotional imagery and do it so well.

Excellent point of view! Yes, burning pain can be the result of both hot and cold stimuli. Fascinating. Of course, a doctor would bring that concept to the foreground.
Thank you for visiting and your kind words!!
