Choking and gagging,
he coughed up feathers. Eating
crow did not tickle.
*Eating crow is an American colloquial idiom, meaning humiliation by admitting wrongness or having been proven wrong after taking a strong position. Crow is presumably foul-tasting in the same way that being proven wrong might be emotionally hard to swallow (Wikipedia).
Nice one. I wrote in the past a poem small about eating crow and I also have a haiku in the same genre. A lot of people do not know the meaning of eating crow. I’m glad you put the definition in with your poem. I wish I would have done this.

Thank you! Yes, I was surprised that some bloggers didn’t know what it meant. I’ve learned, though, to never assume. Are you gonna reblog your poem?

Probably at a later date. No big hurry to do so. I’m a prolific writer and even if I put 2 long poems, 2 short poems and 2 haikus in one week I would probably have enough for 2 years. and I keep on writing.

I know of another blogger who does that, as well. I just started a bin, too, but I’m nowhere close to what you and he have stashed. I’m very envious.

You have been christened by none other than Aphrodite. The Olympus goddess of love and beauty. People will find it hard to live up to that name

I’ve never heard ‘eating crow’. We tend to use ‘eating humble pie’ to mean the same thing.

We say that, too. Eating humble pie sounds so much more appetizing than eating crow; although, if you pluck crow before eating it, it does go down much smoother 😘

Especially if you cover it in batter and stick it in a bucket with other dismembered crows and a 2-litre bottle of crowca crowla.

I heard of this phrase before, but never knew what it meant — thanks for the education! I wonder how nasty a crow tastes? Because you know what? Being proven wrong doesn’t taste all that bad…assuming you add a little pepper.

Sure, always happy to educate you! 😀 Really, Mr. Picky Eater? 😜 I think pepper AND ketchup might help! lol

Thank you, nice poem and the explanation makes it accessible to non English speakers ☺

Oh, I’m glad the explanation helped! Thank you so much 😊

We English speakers appreciate the explanation as well. 🙂 How many of us reading this wonderful haiku can identify with its message?
“Eating crow” is not necessarily such a bad thing. Humiliation may not feel good, but it gives us an opportunity to learn from it (if we are smart!) I personally ate some crow many comments back as I lacked the skill to explain my well meant intentions and came across rude and judgmental. For this I will always remain apologetic. Receiving forgiveness counterbalances a meal of crow nicely though! 🙂
With love.

Well said, as usual. You could probably take any word and give it your masterful tweak!
Oh, I cringe knowing what you mean. It’s challenging to communicate via the written word, at times. Things said can be easily misconstrued. I appreciate your understanding and am touched by your words. Thank you so much 💖

Cangos and beanies are hats. I was having a tough time with rhyme structure there.

Ha, Ha, makes one smile , all this gorgeous banter. Rooks and Crows, although clever, would be loved by me if they could improve and tone down their pitch considerably..until they do , hmmm not much I can do…send a falcon like in the days when men were men and each had a falcon the hunt with. Those were the days..xx

Lol! You tickle me!! Yes, the banter here can be fun and mean (guess who?haha!) at times. I know what you mean about men with falcons — so much better than men with chips on their shoulders. Ha! xo
